Mission Trip #3 - May 2000

Upon arriving back in Charlotte after the 2^nd mission trip, I began praying about a construction/sports mission team to go back to South Africa in the spring of 2000 to begin building the center. Bill Palmer, Mike Burk, and I, along with 20 other people from Charlotte, NC and Birmingham, AL joined together to form a mission team whose purpose was to begin construction on the community center and continue to minister in the schools through basketball. The team arrived in Cape Town the last week of April 2000 to find the small vacant lot ready for us to get started. The local members of Westridge Baptist Church had been making concrete blocks for about 2 months in preparation for the work at hand. The work seemed overwhelming, but this was God’s plan. The foundation for the community center was laid, and it was good! The team was continuing to minister through the schools and hundreds of children were coming to know Jesus through the basketball clinics and assemblies in the schools. By the end of this third trip, the teams had led over 2,100 children to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. The future community center became known as The F.R.O.G. Center (Fully Relying On God) on May 5^th, 2000. Pastor John knew that the many Moslem parents would probably not allow their children to come to the Westridge Baptist Church Community Center, but they would let them come to The F.R.O.G. Center.
