Wilmington's NC Battleship 1/2 Marathon
and 5k was Maryellie Carpenter's first ever 5k.
She was the youngest racer at 6 years old, but finished well ahead of the rear
of the pack.
Mom is going to try to keep up!
Maryellie already had the racer image established.
For a first ever 5k she sure picked a cold, wet one.
Maryellie starts her sprint to the
finish. (The lady next to her is determined to not let a six
year old beat her!)

At six years old, the race is all
about the free doughnuts. The first question Maryellie asked
upon finishing was not "What was my time?", but instead "Where's
that free food tent you
told me about?"
Finally, a nice boat ride back across the Cape Fear River to downtown Wilmington.
